How can I promote my website?

I have listed my website in various search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Ask.com and I’ve added links in a MySpace bulletin and I’ve listed it in my blog, as well as on my MySpace page.

I want to list it on forums, but all of the forums I’ve been to say that it’s against the rules to promote or advertise your website. Are there any forums where you can promote your website?

Also, what are some other options for promoting my website for free?

How to make a website?

Im trying to make a website where I advertise framing. Basically im trying to show what I sell, where Im located, some background info, and a place where people can give feedback. When people are looking to frame something or buy some pictures I want my website to be one of the first sites to show up on a search engine. Can someone explain how I can do this all?

There are many solutions to build a website, but what is really important is making the website SEO (Search Engine Optimized) so that search engines like Google can find it.

The easiest way to build a website and market it online is to have someone do it for you. Yellowbook offers their WebReach product line which does just that.

Name Servers? DNS?

I recently purchased a domain name from GoDaddy. My website is hosted somewhere else. I think I figured out the domain forwarding; the site I’m hosted on says to use a number for forwarding but GoDaddy wants the url. Will this still work?
Also what are name servers? How do I use them? Do I need them? I’d call them but their wait time is really long.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, it worked great!

try forwarding to “http://

Name servers are basically the authoriative DNS servers for you website. Clients such as internet browsers look to the name servers to resolve your internet domain to IP address. In this case Godaddy should have the name servers for your domain name. In your case you are doing a simple forwarding you won’t need to worry about DNS records or your name server. You simply want to have people who try to visit http://yourdomain.com go to the IP address of the server your website is located on. The forwarding to IP address shoudl take care of that. If not you will have to go into DNS on godaddy’s control panel and input your IP address as the A record for the site.

I just tried it on a website I have on godaddy and it worked great. In the forwarding field just put your IP address after http:// and it should work just fine. Give it a while it can take an hour or longer for a farwarding to fully take effect.

Free forum host with currency. Before you answer this question, read the details!?

Okay I want to open an rp forum, but I want a free forum host (Like 5wwwww5.com) except I want a host that has forum currency, if you don’t know what that is, then you probably can’t help me. Its a forum of points on your forum, and when people post the get points. I want to make a legend of Zelda rp forum, and when people post they should get virtual rupees and the like. So what free forum host has currency options?

If I register a .net domain and someone else registered a .com domain of the same name, can they claim it?

I have heard of domain wars where a person could try to get another to remove their website if the name sounds similar to theirs. The domain name I am trying to purchase has been registered, but is not in use. It appears to have been purchased by a web page publishing company almost a year ago. Is it possible they are holding on to it in attempts to sell it?

If I use the .net site of the same name, what can I do to protect myself? Do you think it is wise to contact the person who registered the .com site to see if he is willing to sell it, or if they plan to use it?

fyi… I’m a beginner at all this, but am trying to do all the work on building my site on my own.
Thanks so much for your responses. Do you think it would make sense to backorder the website? It is available on backorder.

Similar names dispute occurs when both sites have the same ending like .com or .net
if you registered a site ending with .com anybody could register exactly the same name ending .net because .com and.net are regarded as totally separate.
Large organizations such as Yahoo! get around this by reserving all variations – yahoo.net belongs to Yahoo! but they don’t use it. If they hadn’t reserved yahoo.net anybody could have used it

I have a domain now what?

This is gonna be a long one , so sorry in advance, and thank you in advance! Ok here’s how it went, I got the ingenious idea to start a website for people who’s lives have been effected by Autism in any way. You know, a place to talk, share info, and pics. So I started a blog on WordPress, and they had something on there about purchasing a Domain name to get more recognition. So they referred me to Godaddy.com. I went there and set myself up with a domain name. Then I was informed that someone needed to host my name, so I went back to WordPress and used the Domain mapping feature so that when you type in my domain name you were sent directly to my blog. Then I decided that I wanted the site to have a link to the blog instead, so I went and took WordPress off of the name server list and bought the Economy hosting package at Godaddy. Now it is telling me that I can’t make a website because of where my domain is parked?! I spent money on the ability to be hosted by godaddy! They said I would have 5 pages, a certain amount of memory and all of that stuff. I even went as far as to learn how to use html codes to start my site, then when I typed in my domain name like this http://www.helpingheartsforum.com/ like they said to, it just went straight to WordPresses home site telling me that I could use my domain name to start a blog there! Is my situation to messed up to fix? Do I have to start all over? I gave as much info as I can remember off hand but ask questions if you have to, also feel free to contact me personally, as my email is listed on my profile! I would really appreciate some insight, this website idea is really important to me, I know how it is to be effected by Autism because my son was diagnosed two years ago. At any rate I look forward to any help I can get! Thank you in advanced!

It sounds as like you have not hooked your domain name to the hosting account, or if you have, you have not given it long enough. It can take up to 24 hours for all of the DNS servers out there to update and until then you may experience a problem. You will also want to make sure you are not loading a cached page in your browser. Hit Ctrl F5 to refresh.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)-Is Business.com, Botw.org, or Yahoo.com Directory Still Worth It/?

I run several sites, but one imparticular holds potential to be a large site. I have been reading countless articles on SEO and directories.

[[My Question Is This]]

Would you recommend Business.com, Yahoo.com, or Botw.org to submit for SEO purposes?

I have already submitted to Yahoo (still waiting for a reply). I am considering business.com and botw.org as well, but each costs $ 299.99 (which is pricey if it doesn’t help my seo).

Can you give any insight into whether those 2 are worth it? Of course Dmoz is a lost cause…

How can I buy an expired domain name?

I’ve just been looking for domain names that are appropriate for my work. My ideal .co.uk domain is taken, however when I checked the WHOIS register, it was registered on 28/02/02, last updated on 15/11/07 but the Registration Status is now at ‘Renewal Required’ as re-registration was due on 29/02/08. Is there any way that I can purchase this domain or is there a period of time in which the current owner is allowed sole opportunity to re-buy the name?

what a great question

Why is my computer getting so warm?

For the last three days, it has been building up a bit of heat. Its been on for about two or three week running a host Win7 and two Virtual Machines with WinXP on one and Server 08 on the other, and pretty much been playing music non stop, and a few movies. This machine should be able to handle it, but all of a sudden it’s building up heat. Should I shut it down or just buy a chill pad for it?
It’s a laptop, being why I posted in this category. And startup and shutdown are bad for a computer, running non stop with good cooling is perfectly fine. Until you have a cooling problem.
I never use a computer longer than 18 months, their obsolete after than anyway. This on is about 6 months into that, so I just need it to work twice what it already has.

I Can’t see other network places when using VMware . WHY?

I can map the network and see the PC who host VMware,
I can even see Windows 2003 network places (using VMware). So basically I see both but I can’t see my PC in my bedroom.
Is VMware limited when it comes to map network drive with a virtual OS?? Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Dougc
No its not, are you using NATing or does the VMware system have its own IP address?

my guess is that you are using NATing and if so that would be why you cannot see anything that you cannot see anything except what you have on the system that has the virtual machine
